Simplify your subscription and recurring billing management with Qonto's recurring payment links. Automatically charge customers at regular intervals for memberships, retainers, subscriptions, or any service billed on a recurring basis—all managed directly from your Qonto account.
Once you create a recurring payment link and share it with your customers, they become subscribers after their first payment. From that moment, they're automatically charged the same amount at each billing cycle you define, with no manual action needed from you. You can track all subscriptions, manage subscribers, and monitor payment history in real-time from your Qonto account.
Who can use this: Owners and Admins on all pricing plans in France 🇫🇷, Germany 🇩🇪, and the Netherlands 🇳🇱. Available on both 💻 web and 📱 mobile app.
Important requirement: You must have activated the payment links feature to create and manage recurring payment links. Payments for recurring links are processed through our partner Mollie.
How do I create a recurring payment link?
Creating a recurring payment link is straightforward and takes just a few minutes:
- Go to Business account > Payment links in your Qonto application
- Click Create a payment link
- Choose to share the payment link without an invoice
- Enter the products or services and payment amount for each billing cycle
- Select Recurring as the payment link type (instead of One-off)
- Choose the frequency for automatic charges: weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-yearly (every 6 months), or yearly
-
(Optional) Set the duration for your subscription:
- Unlimited (Default): The subscription continues until you or the client cancels it
- Limited: Specify the maximum number of payments (e.g., 12 payments for an annual membership)
- (Optional) Set the link to only one subscriber if you want to restrict how many clients can subscribe
- Customize payment methods by activating or deactivating Credit Card, Apple Pay, or PayPal
- Generate and share the payment link with your customers by email, messaging apps, or embed on your website or online shop to accept recurring payments
Once a client makes their first payment through your recurring link, they automatically become a subscriber and are charged the same amount at each billing cycle—no manual action needed from you or your client.
☝️ Important notes:
- Recurring payment links don't have an expiration date like one-off links. They remain active until you deactivate them or the duration limit is reached.
- iDEAL is NOT available for recurring payment links, even if it's enabled on your account, as it only supports one-time payments.
How do I view and manage my recurring payment links?
You can easily track and manage all your recurring payment links from your Qonto account:
To view your recurring payment links:
- Log into your Qonto account and go to Business account > Payment links
- Filter your payment links to show:
- All links (one-off and recurring)
- Recurring links only
- One-off links only
Understanding payment link statuses:
Recurring payment links have two statuses:
- Active: The payment link is live and accepting new subscribers. Existing subscribers are being charged automatically at each billing cycle.
- Inactive: You have deactivated the payment link and it no longer accepts new subscribers. Existing active subscriptions continue to be charged according to their schedule even after the link is deactivated.
To deactivate a recurring payment link:
- Open the payment link details
- Click Cancel
- New customers can no longer subscribe through this link
⚠️ Important: When you deactivate a recurring payment link, existing active subscriptions continue to be charged until they complete their duration or are individually cancelled.
How do I view and manage my subscribers?
You have complete visibility into all subscribers and their payment history:
To view subscribers:
- Click on a recurring payment link to open the details view
- In the Clients section, you'll see all subscribers with their status:
- Active subscribers: Will be charged at the next billing cycle
- Inactive subscribers: Subscription cancelled or completed, no further charges
For each subscriber, you can view:
- First name, last name, and email address
- Subscription status (active or inactive)
- Complete payment history with dates, amounts, and payment methods used
- Payment status (paid or failed)
To cancel a subscription for a specific client:
- Open the subscriber's details
- Cancel their active subscription
- Make sure to inform your client and stop providing the service or product
What happens when a recurring payment fails?
If a recurring payment fails due to insufficient funds, expired card, or other payment issues, here's what happens:
Automatic subscription cancellation:
- The subscription is automatically cancelled when the payment fails
- The subscription status becomes inactive
- No further automatic charges will be attempted for that subscriber
Notifications:
- Both you and your client receive an email notification about the failed payment and cancelled subscription
- You can see the failed payment in the subscription detail view for that specific client
Next steps: You'll need to either:
- Stop providing the recurring service to that client, or
- Agree with your client on another payment method and send them a new payment link to restart their subscription
💡 Tip: Regularly check your payment link dashboard to monitor active subscriptions and quickly identify any payment failures that need your attention.
