How do payment links work with Qonto?

  • Updated

Accelerate your payment collection process with our Payment Links feature, powered by our partner Mollie, a leading European payment service provider. This solution enables you to create secure, professional payment links for your client invoices or as standalone links, offering your clients multiple payment methods while automatically reconciling incoming payments.
The Payment Links feature simplifies how you get paid, helping you maintain healthy cash flow and spend less time on payment administration.

How to activate payment links?

Before being able to use payment links, you will need to activate them. We are using a third party payment service provider to power our payment links offer (Mollie). You can go through the flow to create a Mollie account directly from the Qonto app.

  1. Navigate to the Payment links section in your Qonto App
  2. Click on activate payment links
  3. Follow the activation path and provide the required additional business information, such as your commercial website, business phone support contact and a description of your business.
    • This will help us and our partner validate your information and activate your account faster
  4. Accept the contract and terms of agreement with our partner
  5. If the information provided is valid, you will be automatically able to create and start using payment links.

Done! 🎉

Once payment links are activated, you will be able to create them as standalone or from your invoice creation flow.

👆Please note: Activation may take additional time due to Mollie's manual review but you can already create invoice drafts during the review period. There might be additional information requested from Mollie via E-Mail to validate the account. You receive an email confirmation from us once your account is validated and payment links are ready to use.

How to create payment links?

For Standalone Payment Links:

  1. Navigate to the Payment Links section in your Qonto App.
  2. Click on "Create payment link".
  3. Enter the products or services, payment amount
  4. Customise your link to enable or disable the desired payment methods
  5. Set a payment link to accept only one single payment or accept multiple payments from different clients
  6. Generate and share the payment link with your clients via email, messaging apps, or other channels.

Standalone payment links work independently of invoices and are perfect for collecting one-time payments, deposits, or payments that don't require a formal invoice.

For Invoice-based Payment Links:

  1. Navigate to your client invoices section in your Qonto App.
  2. Create your invoice depending on your business needs and click on "next".
  3. Select "Activate payment links" in the following "Payment Details" screen.
  4. Follow the setup path if you haven't already activated payment links.
  5. Complete your invoice creation process.

👆Please note: All payment links expire automatically after 6 months.

Who can access this feature?

This feature is accessible in all plans via mobile and web apps for the roles Owner and Admin.

👆Please note: Payment links are currently available only for French, German and Dutch organisations.

Which payment methods are available?

Currently, Qonto supports Apple Pay, Credit/Debit Cards, iDeal and PayPal through payment links. The available credit card options include corporate and consumer Visa, Mastercard, American Express and cards part of the Carte Bancaire network in France.

If payments are issued in foreign currencies, Mollie manages the currency conversion and credits your Qonto account in EUR.

What are the costs and how does payment processing work?

Creating and sending payment links is completely free.

You will only incur processing fees when your client makes a payment, with the exact fee varying depending on the payment method used. When a payment link is paid, the system automatically marks the associated invoice (if applicable) as paid. The received payout is linked to the transaction, providing justification for pre-accounting purposes.

Payment Method Variable per Transaction Fixed (in EUR)
iDeal n/a 0.32
Carte Bancaire consumer 1.4% 0.25

How do I manage and track my payment links?

You can view all payment links (both invoice-related and standalone) under Business Account → Payment links.

Payment links can have different statuses depending on their type:

For Invoice Payment Links:

  • Active (connected to an unpaid invoice and available for payment)
  • Completed (connected to a paid invoice and has processed one payment)
  • Expired (links automatically expire 6 months after creation)
  • Canceled (connected to a canceled invoice and no longer accepts payments)

If you cancel an invoice (with or without a credit note), the associated payment link will automatically expire and become inactive for future payment.

For Standalone Payment Links:

  • Active (available for payment)
  • Paid (for single-use links that have processed one payment)
  • Expired (links automatically expire 6 months after creation)
  • Canceled (no longer accepts payments)

Standalone payment links can be configured to accept either a single payment or multiple payments from different clients.

You can differentiate invoice-related payment links from standalone payment links because invoice-related payment links will always have one invoice attached to the link.

👆Please note: For reusable payment links, you will be able to visualise all payments received directly from the payment link side panel or details screen on mobile. The payments related to a payment link will contain the email of the payer and the payment execution date.

How does the payment settlement process work?

When you receive payments through payment links, there is a brief processing period before funds appear in your account. This is due to our partner, Mollie, applying a settlement delay for credit and debit card transactions, which usually takes about 4 business days.

There is no settlement delay for payment links paid with iDeal.

Once we've completed a quick review and approval of your account, you'll start receiving payouts to your chosen Qonto account every business day.

Plus, you have the convenience of adjusting your payout schedule to fit your needs directly from your Mollie dashboard.

What should I know about payouts and fees?

There are several important aspects about the payout process:

  • Payouts do not occur on bank holidays, but will process on the next business day
  • The payout reference counterparty will be indicated as "Stichting Mollie Payments"
  • You will receive a monthly statement via E-Mail linked to your Mollie account detailing all fees associated with your Mollie-processed payments

How are my payouts protected?

We keep your payments save and secure. To maintain security and prevent fraud, Mollie implements various risk assessment measures that might affect the timing and frequency of your payouts. If these security measures impact your account, you will receive prompt notification along with guidance on any necessary next steps.
