How do I choose between transfer methods for international transfers?

  • Updated

You can now make a foreign currency transfer through our partner Wise which enables you to process it using local networks, not SWIFT. This solution is quicker, cheaper and offers the same frictionless experience as Wise. You can now send GBP to the UK, INR to India, AUD to Australia (and many more currencies), which will be credited from a few seconds to up to 3 working days. The precise receiving time will be indicated on your app when you will make a transfer.

There is a few exceptions for now, allowing you to send USD and EUR to any country with the SWIFT network.

The following currencies will also be sent via the SWIFT network.

  • PLN
  • SEK
  • DKK
  • NOK
  • RON

All other currencies than USD and EUR are only sendable to their home country (find the list of available countries below).

You can make an international transfer with the same level of speed and easiness as with Wise, directly from your Qonto account. You do not need a Wise account.

Which information are required to process the transaction as a local payment?

Depending on the currency chosen, you might have more than one option to enter your recipient’s details, e.g. for CAD transfers, you can pick the local EFT method (shown as “Local bank” on your interface) or the Interac E-Payment (shown as “Interac”).

⚠️ For AUD, HKD, IDR, JPY, MYR and THB currencies, the recipient’s name has to fully match the name on the account in order for the transfer to be processed, otherwise it will be rejected.

💡 The receiving times indicated above are estimations. The specific delays per currency will be indicated on your interface on the One Last Look screen, before validating the transfer.

Why is the currency that I need not listed above?

In that case, this might means that Wise does not offer the possibility to send this currency to its home country yet. As an alternative, you can ask your beneficiary if their bank accepts USD payments. If they do, you can make USD payments or convert the USD into the given currency.

Please visit this page to check the accepted currencies and countries to make SWIFT transfers.

Why is my transfer delayed?

The receiving times indicated only apply for working days. Some payments may take longer because of holidays and weekends.

Due diligence checks on your payments may lengthen the delivery time. In those cases, we will process those verifications as quickly as possible and will contact you in case we could need further information.

Please click on What are the different status for an outgoing transfer? to better understand how your transfer is being processed.

Why can’t I send money to a recipient?

This could happen for regulatory reasons but not necessarily, in this case, please contact the support directly from your Qonto account.
