What to do in the event of the account holder's death?

First, we would like to express our sincere condolences.

In order for us to update the account(s) concerned, we will need to obtain certain documents. Once these have been received, we will guide you through the necessary steps.

 

For any inquiries related to the account holder's death and their estate, please write to us at succession-fr@qonto.com.

The team responsible for handling estate matters will get back to you within 48 business hours (for the French market only 🇫🇷).

 

The account concerned is an account for a legal entity (company)

Corporate law will apply if a legal entity holds the account. In the event of the death of a company's manager, the shareholders must take the necessary steps to change the management or liquidate the company.
We will need the following documents:
  • The death certificate
  • Your national ID card or any other document proving your identity
  • Proof of relation to the deceased (KBIS, family record book, etc.)
If a new manager has been designated, we invite him to contact us via email to provide an updated KBIS and the Minutes of the Extraordinary General Meeting that agreed on the change of management. This will allow us to update the account holder information.
 

The account concerned is for an individual (auto-entrepreneur)

We will need the following documents:
  • The death certificate
  • The notary's email contact
  • Your national ID card or any other document proving your identity
  • Proof of relation to the deceased (KBIS, family record book, etc.)
If an heir is a minor or a protected adult, you will need to provide us with the Judgment of Acceptance of the Estate issued by the Guardianship Judge, as well as the settlement instructions from the legal guardian.
Furthermore, if any heir is domiciled outside of France, we will need the certificate of non-liability for taxes to proceed with the release of funds held in the account.
 

You wish to use the funds in the account to pay the funeral expenses:

For individual accounts opened with Qonto (freelancers), we can use the funds in the account to cover funeral expenses up to €5,000.

To do so, you will need to provide us with:
EITHER:
  • The original funeral invoice (which must be sent by the funeral service provider themselves) by postal mail to Qonto, 18 Rue de Navarin, 75009 Paris, or by email to succession-fr@qonto.com
  • The consent of the heir or heirs
  • The national ID card(s) (or passport) of the heir(s)
  • Proof of relation to the deceased (family record book, certificate of inheritance, etc.)
OR:
  • The written consent of the Notary handling the estate
